Trying the i3 tiled window manager. It's really fun, but I miss some !ratpoison goodies, like the #emacs style shortcuts.

@lincoln I use actually openbox on my !crunchbang but !ratpoison stays the best !lightweightlinux window manager

@otakukuma hehe, yup! But I'm loving to use i3, it's status bar and workspace nav is awesome, not counting that it's xcb based, a lot faster

What's a lightweight way in !Linux to display network speed? Gnome-system-monitor = nice, but adds a few % CPU. Conky = complex. !LightLinux

@chriswaterguy In the default setting Xmobar display CPU load info, memory status and network status so it's not that difficult

Let's try again. What is the best beginner-friendly !lightlinux distro for old 256Mb and 128Mb RAM laptops?

@pertutatis Don't know options well enough to claim `best' even were that well defined. But, #crunchbang rocks.
-
@vanden no problem, thanks for your opinion ;)

What is the best !lightlinux distro for old 256Mb and 128Mb RAM laptops?
about 10 months ago from web-
@pertutatis In that case, I would suggest Fedora or Mint with Lxde. They tend to work well on low-spec machines.
-
@pertutatis Also, I have used the variations of Zenwalk - that one is pretty lightweight.
-
@mjjzf thanks, Zenwalk is my 1st option (XFCE or Openbox) ;) I had problems before installing Fedora LXDE (?)
