@mvdan you do mnot need a profile to use gmail - as long as you use an account for gmail only and delete the profile, I see no problem

You actually have to go back into account settings and *delete* the profile which _actually_ is your G+ account as well. No thanks!

reality check: Google still requires a 'first name' AND a 'last name' when you create an account and it sneakily includes G+...
