@ianb Twitter often auto-shortens URLs unnecessarily too. I always use Twurl so I can track how often they are clicked!

identi.ca is gaining momentum but doesn't suffer from the same problems as Twitter - probably because it doesn't have the volume of traffic.

@ianb if http creates a new method it will then be invalid to use in XHTML until that spec is revised.
